Improving our environmental footprint while expanding in Slovakia

In 2021, the Group completed its €370 million investment at its Ružomberok mill (Slovakia). The project scope included a 100,000 tonnes per annum expansion of the pulp mill as well as the installation of the new 300,000 tonnes per annum containerboard machine. Within this first period of operation the new technology setup has further enhanced the excellent environmental performance of the mill.

The specific Scope 1 emission per tonne of product has decreased by 30% in 2021 compared to 2019, the specific NOx emissions declined by 17% on the same basis. With ongoing optimisations, the full benefits of the new technology will be delivered over the coming years and support Mondi’s commitment to delivering value accretive growth sustainably.
