Mondi extends laminate applications within its paper portfolio

  • “Advantage MF Boost High Porous” is the latest innovation within Mondi`s Advantage MF Boost portfolio for high perpormance laminate applications
  • Alongside the portfolio growth, Mondi is testing higher basis weights of up to 160g/m² to serve growing customer demand
  • Mondi is well-positioned to fulfil market needs for consistent quality and increased supply, having expanded production of this range to two sites: Dynäs (Sweden) and Frantschach (Austria)
  • Mondi partners with the EGGER Group, one of the leading international wood-based materials manufacturers to meet evolving customer needs

13 November 2019 – Mondi, a leading global packaging and paper company, has launched an innovative new paper grade named Advantage MF Boost High Porous within its Advantage MF Boost portfolio which can be used within  laminate applications such as decorative panels, exterior panels and kitchen worktops. This portfolio signals Mondi's  clear commitment to the European market for saturating base kraft paper applications. With production sites in Sweden and Austria for this range, Mondi is committed to ensuring it meets increased availability for its customers.

The Advantage MF Boost portfolio is tailormade and is good for high absorption levels. It is  produced from pure, unbleached long-fibre kraft pulp. Alongside Advantage MF Boost, which was launched successfully in 2018, Advantage MF Boost High Porous is a specially designed kraft paper which combines excellent runnability with high porosity. Depending on customer requirements and applications, Mondi is now able to offer both, a high and low porous version.

Alexander Baars, Sales Manager Advantage MF Boost at Mondi Speciality Kraft Paper, explains: “With the launch of Advantage MF Boost last year, we successfully positioned ourselves as a new supplier of saturating base kraft papers for various decorative and compact laminates. Now, we want to consolidate our place in this market and continue to offer our customers new paper substances and more variety. The extended portfolio of Advantage MF Boost and Advantage MF Boost High Porous as well as the decision to produce the paper grades at two Mondi production sites are a clear commitment towards our customers' needs for increased supply and new substances with low and high porosity.”

Both types of paper are suitable for internal and external building panels, worktops, flooring and shelving, as well as technical films for plywood. Functioning as a core layer in high-pressure laminates (HPLs) and continuously pressed laminates (CPLs), or as a technical film in plywood, Advantage MF Boost and Advantage MF Boost High Porous are available in multiple substances, from 60 to 120 g/m². In addition, Mondi is currently running customer trials with higher basis weights of up to 160 g/m².

EGGER Group, one of the leading international manufacturers of wood-based materials, use Advantage MF Boost in their products and have welcomed the extended portfolio. Herbert Kerer, Head of Competence Center Impregnation & Lamination at EGGER Group, said: “For us as a converter, Advantage MF Boost is the perfect material for ensuring consistent product quality. It is the core of our product, so to speak. We are glad that Mondi is now ensuring increased availability with its portfolio extension and providing higher basis weights of up to 160 g/m².”
