The holidays are notorious for waste and a DIY ‘Christmas star’ fashioned out of organic waste bags is taking Sweden by storm.

The trend shows how we can embrace a move towards a greener Christmas and has gained momentum across the country.

Produced by Mondi Dynäs, Advantage MF EcoComp has been used by Svenco to make organic waste paper bags in Scandinavia for over 20 years – the ‘Matavfallspåse’ bag is indispensable for most Swedish households and is fully biodegradable and compostable.

While it is designed for the environmentally friendly collection of household waste, chances are the speciality kraft paper is making a more festive appearance in homes this Christmas as a Christmas star decoration.

It has also received notoriety on Swedish TV on how to make the decoration.

In 2020, Mondi plans to take its game-changing approach to organic waste composting to other countries across the Continent and we’re hoping the trend for sustainable Christmas decorations follows.
