Paper-based ice box recognized as promising transport concept for temperature-sensitive goods
Vienna (Austria), October 2016 – Mondi’s corrugated packaging plant in Grünburg, Austria, has won this year’s Wellpappe Austria Award for its ice box in the “Future/Young Potentials” category. The mobile cooling box concept provides a novel, paper-based packaging solution to transport temperature-sensitive or chilled foods and beverages.
The ice box was constructed by apprentice Simone Bruckmüller with support from Mondi Grünburg’s product design and development department. It is a 100% recyclable solution that offers an “on-the-go chilling” concept. A special paper surface treatment using Mondi’s Paratherm ® barrier solution enhances the performance of the corrugated box for use in cooling and freezing conditions. It prolongs the cooling effect of ice packs or crushed ice and retains any meltwater.

The award is organized by Forum Wellpappe Austria, an initiative of the Austrian corrugated board industry. On 11 October 2016, the ceremony took place in Vienna with more than 400 representatives from the industry.
