What are the PPWR’s objectives?
The PPWR is an EU-wide regulation which aims to prevent the generation of packaging waste, reducing its quantity, and promote reuse and recycling. PPWR works towards a circular economy by harmonising rules across Europe.
The PPWR will be applicable and binding in all EU Member States 18 months after entry into force which we expect will be in Q2 2026.
The regulation applies to any packaging placed on the market within the European Union including imports.
What is the impact of the PPWR?
The legislation will change the way companies and consumers use packaging as almost every packaging category will be impacted.
Mondi supports the EU's drive for Net-Zero and a circular economy. We believe that the PPWR is an important step to reach the EU’s objectives of reducing the environmental impact of packaging waste. With MAP2030 we are committed to working with our customers to develop sustainable paper and packaging solutions that minimise waste and maximise resource efficiency.
