Mondi launches its 2024 Integrated and Sustainable Development reporting suite

Mondi's 2024 Integrated and Sustainable Development reporting suite is available now, offering insights into our financial performance, strategic progress and how we are delivering against our ambitious sustainability commitments.

Our 2024 Integrated report demonstrates how we are creating long-term value by investing in our operations, innovating with customers and driving sustainable growth.

As Andrew King, Group CEO, explains in his strategic review:

The demand for sustainable products is providing many opportunities for Mondi and is a key driver of our future growth. Our investment over the last few years, enhancing our unique packaging and paper platform and product offering for our customers, will support this growth. 

In 2024, some of our key strategic achievements include:

  • Improvements across the value chain, including procurement synergies to reduce input costs, increase energy efficiency and further enhance product quality
  • Completion of new kraft paper machine at Štětí (Czech Republic); major mill modernisations in Świecie (Poland) and Kuopio (Finland); expansions of box plants in Warsaw and Simet (both Poland)
  • Extensive colleague engagement
  • Collaboration with our customers to deliver high-quality packaging and paper solutions that comply with all relevant health and safety requirements

Our 2024 Sustainable Development report provides a detailed view of our progress against the Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030), including performance on the sustainability topics most material to Mondi. Key highlights include:

Circular Driven Solutions

  • 87% of our revenue is from packaging and paper products that are reusable, recyclable or compostable based on our Path to Circularity Scorecard
  • We assessed 1,776 products using our in-house life-cycle-based tools and calculated 224 product carbon footprints
  • We decreased our specific waste to landfill by 4% since last year, translating to an overall reduction of 46% compared to our 2020 baseline

  • Our employees and contractors attended 566,333 hours of trainings, equivalent to an average of 25 hours of training per employee
  • A strong safety performance that places us among industry leaders, while reinforcing the need for continuous vigilance and improvement, with a slightly higher Total Recordable Case Rate of 0.68 compared with our 2020 baseline
  • All colleagues have access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offer for support and counselling in stressful situations for both professional and personal causes

Taking Action on Climate

  • 31% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions compared with 2019 baseline and an 11% reduction compared with the prior year  
  • 15% decrease in the absolute Scope 3 emissions compared with our 2019 baseline and an 8% increase compared with the prior year, primarily driven by higher production volumes and correspondingly higher amount of raw materials purchased
  • 22% decrease in the total Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions compared with our 2019 baseline and a 1% decrease compared with the prior year
  • 100% of Mondi’s wood fibre was responsibly sourced in 2024, with 76%  FSC™ or PEFC certified with the remainder meeting the FSC Controlled Wood standard
