This week, the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) has announced the completion of its Nature Benchmark and we are very proud that Mondi is ranked among the top 25 companies. Out of over 800 companies assessed from 2022 and 2024, we have reached #15 in the overall ranking, positioning us on top of the ‘Containers and packaging’ category.

The benchmark measures how the world's most influential companies across more than 20 industries are impacting the environment, biodiversity, communities and the working conditions of employees. It aims to incentivise action by identifying the areas where progress and leadership is possible to deliver on the SDGs. See all results here.

In 2022, Mondi was among the first set of almost 400 companies assessed, reaching a top 10 position in the ranking. In 2023, a further 380 were assessed by WBA. And this year, the final 50 companies were assessed, marking the completion of the benchmark.

The WBA results highlighted Mondi’s strong performance in tackling key biodiversity pressures and holistic stakeholder engagement.

We are happy to have maintained our leading position in the WBA’s ranking, even though the number of companies assessed has more than doubled compared to the first ranking released in 2022. We remain committed to continuously improving our approach to biodiversity and water management and reducing our impacts on nature.Gladys Naylor, Head of Sustainable Development at Mondi

According to the WBA’s Nature Benchmark only 5% of companies have carried out an assessment of the impact of their operations on nature, and less than 1% on the dependencies on nature. Furthermore, only 6% of companies have a timebound target to eliminate deforestation.

Through our MAP2030 framework, we have committed to maintaining zero deforestation in our wood supply and safeguarding biodiversity and water resources in our operations and beyond. In 2023, 100% of our fibre was responsibly sourced, with 75% FSC- or PEFC-certified and the remainder meeting the FSC Controlled Wood standard.
