Mondi launches 2022 reporting suite: Delivering Sustainable Solutions

Mondi continues to make progress towards its MAP2030 sustainability commitments and targets

  • 17% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions compared with 2019 baseline
  • 82% of revenue generated from reusable, recyclable or compostable products
  • €8.9 million in social investment for communities

20 March 2023: Mondi Group, a global leader in packaging and paper, has today released its 2022 reporting suite, including its Sustainable Development report, Integrated report and financial statements, and Sustainable Development indices.

The Sustainable Development report provides a comprehensive overview of Mondi’s approach to sustainability and performance against its Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030) commitments and targets.

Circular Driven Solutions

In 2022, Mondi made significant progress in developing innovative packaging and paper solutions that keep materials in circulation and avoid waste:

  • 82% of revenue was generated from packaging and paper products that are reusable, recyclable or compostable
  • 234 products were assessed through Mondi’s Product Impact Assessment tool and 336 Product Carbon Footprints were calculated
  • 4% reduction of absolute waste to landfill from our manufacturing processes since 2020

Mondi’s progress is made possible by empowered and inclusive teams that contribute to a better world in 2022:

  • 443,000 hours of training were completed, including 49% of hours dedicated to safety training
  • The ‘Curious Community’ launched as a Group-wide sounding board to develop D&I initiatives
  • 8% improvement of our Total Recordable Case Rate (compared with 2020 baseline)

Taking Action on Climate

The Sustainable Development report includes Mondi’s first year of reporting against its science-based Net-Zero Targets. Progress included (compared with a 2019 baseline):

  • 17% reduction in the Group’s Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions
  • 13% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions, across the value chain
  • 15% reduction in absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions

The Group is committed to zero deforestation and 100% of Mondi’s fibre was responsibly sourced in 2022, with 75% FSC ™ or PEFC certified and the remainder meeting the FSC Controlled Wood standard.

Responsible Business Practices

Mondi also made progress in delivering against its Responsible Business Practices targets, which underpin the MAP2030 performance:

  • €8.9m investment in local communities, including a €2m donation to the World Food Programme to support people in need in Ukraine
  • Two human rights due diligence pilots in Mexico and Türkiye
  • 78% of supplier sites have been screened through Mondi’s Responsible Procurement process
