Saving emissions with renewable energy procurement in Sweden
Procuring renewable electricity.
In 2021, our pulp and paper mill at Dynäs (Sweden) signed an agreement to procure renewable electricity generated from hydropower. The agreement enables the mill to avoid around 60,000 tonnes of CO2e per annum of Scope 2 emissions. The Group´s share of renewable energy in the electricity purchased has increased from 5% to 43% and the overall Scope 2 emissions reduced by 3.4%.
One of our priorities as a Group is to reduce the amount of energy we use in our processes, which reduces our need for electricity from external grid providers. In addition, we engage with electricity providers to increase the share of renewable energy in our purchased electricity to reduce our Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
