Vienna, 19 January 2018 – Mondi Industrial Bags has been recognised by Solvay, an international chemical group, for being Solvay’s best supplier in terms of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The award is based on research and rankings by EcoVadis in 2017, a company that monitors sustainability in global supply chains.

Mondi achieved the highest score of all Solvay suppliers – an overall 83 percent – in the EcoVadis ranking. The scoring takes into account factors related to environment, labour practices, fair business practices and sustainable procurement. Mondi scored above the average in all categories and far surpassed the overall average score of 42 percent, scoring in the top 1 percent of all Ecovadis suppliers.

Kristian Saksida, Group General Manager Purchasing and Supply Chain Excellence, Solvay, says, “We are pleased to recognise Mondi for its remarkable sustainable practices, which is outstanding, among all our suppliers. Mondi is not only a strategic supplier to us, but also a role model of sustainable development. This is the first year we are presenting this award, which we hope will encourage all our suppliers to strive for more sustainable practices in their business operations.”

Claudio Fedalto, Sales & Marketing Director Industrial Bags, Mondi, comments, “We are honoured to receive this award. Sustainable development is a key element of our operating framework at Mondi – it is part of our DNA. We will continue to support our customers in achieving their own goals by contributing to their success.“

Mondi and Solvay have been business partners for decades. Mondi supplies Solvay with sustainable packaging solutions for its chemicals. Mondi has been Solvay’s main supplier of paper bags for many years, the result of a mutual trust that has grown over time.

Thierry De Vleminck, International Key Account Manager, Mondi, says, “We’ve built a strong relationship with our partners at Solvay over the years. This award shows that we also share the same view of the importance of sustainability.”

EcoVadis’s methodology for monitoring CSR performance is based on international sustainable development standards (Global Reporting Initiative, United Nations Global Compact, ISO 26000), and is supervised by a scientific committee of CSR and supply chain experts to ensure reliable third-party CSR assessment.
