New PERGRAPHICA® book “Vienna Stories” showcases brand’s versatility

Mondi and film director David Ruehm capture Vienna’s artistic soul in a limited edition

Vienna, 10 April 2018 – Mondi has unveiled a limited-edition Collection Box showcasing its premium design paper brand PERGRAPHICA® in collaboration with writer, film director and photographer David Ruehm. At the heart of the collection is the book “Vienna Stories”, a tribute to the city and its creative soul printed on a variety of shades and textures currently available in the PERGRAPHICA® portfolio.
The book’s twelve stories around creative people and places in Vienna are told using six printing technologies and special finishing options, such as hot foil, embossing, glitter varnish, inlayer, fold out, and stamping. Customers holding “Vienna Stories” in their hands embark on a visual and haptic journey with the brand, allowing them to explore a wealth of printing and finishing possibilities, and to grasp the artistic freedom and sophisticated results that are attainable with PERGRAPHICA®.

An ode to the analogue with PERGRAPHICA®

For the creation of “Vienna Stories” Ruehm worked with artists and art collectives around Vienna, as well as with the city’s analogue “wonderland” Supersense. The concept store’s antique printing press was used to print with the collotype technique, one of the six printing technologies showcased in the book.
Analogue craftsmanship was the overarching theme of a Creative Evening to launch “Vienna Stories”. More than one hundred paper lovers – graphic designers, book publishers, printers, artists, and Mondi distribution partners – got a glimpse of PERGRAPHICA® in action, while artists Giulio Camagni and Nour El-Houda Khelifi sketched away on Mondi’s premium paper. Using a Risograph supplied by the art collective Soybot, the original artworks of the Italian comic book artist and the Tunesian-born Calligraphity artist were printed at the venue and distributed among participants. Unique in its use of soybean colours resulting in brightly coloured prints, risography has been awarded the Energy Star as the most eco-friendly printing technology.
Yet another treat for PERGRAPHICA® guests was the opportunity to experience and participate in four vinyl recordings. Musicians Sonja Romei and Kristian Musser (formerly of Tanzbaby) performed four songs that were cut in vinyl on site and in real time, with the help of a record cutting machine designed by Vinylograph. The machine records background noise next to each sound – final recorded versions are one of a kind.

New FEELBOOK AND SHOWBOOK complete the PERGRAPHICA® collection

Also included in the PERGRAPHICA® Collection Box are a FEELBOOK with paper samples, and a SHOWBOOK with customer success stories. FSC™ Germany, the design magazines Digitalic (Italy) and Novum (Germany), Afisha, the Bolshoi Theatre, and the paper artist Marina Adamova (Russia), as well as two award-winning examples from Germany and Slovakia – the special edition of the Hamburger Abendblatt, and the designer book Typo:Grafik:Um – are a few of the customer projects featured in the SHOWBOOK.
