His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden visits Mondi’s paper mill

On 28 September Mondi Dynäs mill, situated on the riverbank in Väja in Sweden, was visited by his Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden together with the Minister for Rural Affairs, Sven-Erik Bucht, and the County Governor, Gunnar Holmgren.

The royal delegation was responding to an invitation to the county of Ångermanland extended by the forestry company Sveaskog, to present the modern industry and discuss its future prospects as a source of raw materials. For Mondi, as an international packaging and paper company, sustainable forestry and resource efficiency are key concerns and fostered within the Group’s strategy and culture.

For the king’s visit, Mondi Dynäs presented an interesting programme highlighting Mondi’s integrated value chain – a business model that encompasses every aspect of papermaking, from sustainable forestry to the manufacture of packaging and paper products.

Clemens Willee, CEO Packaging Paper, Mondi Europe & International, explains, “Wood is one of our primary raw materials, and we make sure that our wood comes from sustainable, sensibly managed sources. In view of our responsibility to treat resources efficiently, we are continuously refining and modernising our operations.” In recent years Mondi has been investing in energy optimisation measures at its Dynäs mill. Alongside other measures, it has installed a new lime kiln to reduce oil consumption, and replaced the entire PM6 operating system in order to decrease energy consumption.

Mondi Dynäs Managing Director Heikki Husso, comments, “We are very proud of our production facilities here in Dynäs. We have a long tradition of papermaking here, which dates back to 1917 when paper production started. In addition, we produce one of the strongest papers in the world – Advantage MF SpringPack Plus – which made its way into the Swedish edition of the Guinness World Records book in 2001. The king’s visit has been an exceptional honour and experience for all of us.”

The product portfolio of Mondi Dynäs includes sack and speciality kraft paper grades that are used in a wide variety of applications. Another well-known product manufactured on the site is Advantage MF EcoComp, which is the base material for the Matavfallspåse, a recycled paper refuse bag that is produced by the company Svenco and used by most Swedish households.
