Your mission:

Reporting to the Process Automation Manager, the primary role of the Automation Specialist is to combine practical troubleshooting skills, programming skills, and a basic understanding of the pulping process to maintain and improve mill operations by ensuring uptime of the process control network and ancillary systems. With specialized knowledge, the Automation Specialist operates within a small team of specialists and undertakes tasks and projects to stay ahead of the failure curve of all automation systems in their care. 

  • Ensure that process control computer hardware is maintained and replaced proactively to minimize failures
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to the E&I team and assist them during occasional call outs
  • Improve the operability of the Mill
  • Maintain a secure process control network
  • Provide configuration support
  • Carry out process control tuning and control loop performance improvements
  • Server, Historian and data visualization maintenance and upgrades
  • Work with Process Engineers and Operations on projects

Your profile:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in industrial automation preferably in kraft pulp process
  • Journeyperson certification in a relevant trade, technologist, and/or related engineering 
  • Schneider PLC or Rockwell PLC or Delta-V DCS experience is a must
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of industrial communications protocols (Modbus, Control Net, OPC, serial, ethernet, fiber optic)
  • Have the desire to learn, grow, and succeed
